STEAM Academy recognizes that access to technology in school gives students greater opportunities to learn, engage, communicate, and develop skills that will prepare them for work, life, and citizenship. We are committed to helping students develop 21st Century technology and communication skills. To that end, the STEAM 1:1 Chromebook Initiative will provide students with a school-purchased device to use throughout the year at school and at home.

In order to participate, students and parents are asked to sign and return an FCPS 1:1 Chromebook Initiative Form and an FCPS Acceptable Use Policy.  Once these forms are on file at STEAM, students are assigned a Chromebook for instructional use. The Chromebook is used at school each day in every class and students take them home each night. Expectations are that students bring their fully charged Chromebook to school each day. Charging of Chromebooks at school is highly discouraged.

Should a student have an issue with a Chromebook, they should first contact the student technology helpdesk at 381-4410.  Chromebooks are covered with a warranty for most issues. Be aware there is a fine for issues that result from misuse, such as broken screens. There is also a fine for lost power adapters. Parents will be notified by email of any issues that result in a repair or replacement fee.

The district offers technical assistance with FCPS email accounts and Chromebooks. The Student Tech Support line, (859) 381-4410, is open from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mondays and Tuesdays and from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. Translators are available.
