Overview
As the inaugural school year at STEAM Academy unfolded, a need to express expectations of learning took the forefront. What were the attributes of a successful STEAM student? Students were being asked to manage their learning in many new ways. These characteristics translated into qualities that would continue to be crucial not just as students pursued their academic goals, but also in their future careers and personal lives. Using feedback gathered from students, teachers, administration, parents, and community partners, the STEAM Habits were written by committee and adopted by the STEAM Advisory Council. These Habits are central to all STEAM courses and activities. As a result, students are asked to reflect on their STEAM Habits and are provided feedback from their teachers in every course. So valued are these Habits that they account for 15% of the final course grade for every class.
