STEAM Academy recognizes that access to technology in school gives students greater opportunities to learn, engage, communicate, and develop skills that will prepare them for work, life, and citizenship. We are committed to helping students develop 21st Century technology and communication skills. To that end, the STEAM 1:1 Chromebook Initiative will provide students with a school-purchased device to use throughout the year at school and at home.

In order to participate, students and parents are asked to sign and return a STEAM 1:1 Chromebook Initiative form and the STEAM Acceptable Use Policy (AUP). Once these forms are on file at STEAM, your student will be assigned a Chromebook for instructional use. The Chromebook will be used by your student at school each day and they are responsible to take it home each night. Students will bring their Chromebook to school already fully charged each day.

Should your student have an issue with their Chromebook, they should see STC Ashley Rosen to arrange for repair. Chromebooks are covered with a warranty for most issues. Be aware there is a fine for issues that result from misuse, such as broken screens. There is also a fine for lost power adapters. Parents will be notified by email of any issues that result in a repair or replacement fine.

What STEAM expects of parents/guardians for this initiative:

  • Monitoring of home use of the school device
  • Monitoring of device condition
  • Understanding that parents/guardians and student are responsible for loss, theft, or damage to school-purchased devices. Payment for repair or replacement will be expected.
